The 'step' pyramid

Coming out of the 2nd pyramid
Well the last two days have been packed with interesting things! Probably the three highlights (if there can be any) where 1st the camel ride in front of the pyramids - which are really amazingly big. Un-comprehendable until you are actually standing next to them. 2nd looking at all of the King Tut artifacts in the Egyptian museum, which we couldn't take any pictures in. It is hard to believe that all of his stuff is over 3000 years old, and in pristine condition. The amount of work that went in to these kings and Pharohs, their lives and their deaths, is very mind boggling, but I finely started to understand what life and death meant to them. They believed that the after life and resurrection were so important that they did whatever they needed to do, to ensure that they indeed lived with the God's following their deaths. Our tour guide was like a walking Egyptian encylopedia. He knew every date and fact about everything we wanted to learn - and even about a lot the stuff we didn't :) And the 3rd favorite - walking down the steep corridors that lead down inside the tomb of the #2 pyramid or the middle one.
It has been interesting to go through the different emotions watching the people. They are the friendliest people I've met. Always hoping to make you happy and serve you. The women and young women are beautiful. The kids like to say "welcome to Egypt" or "Hello" and wait to hear your reply. The men have worn faces and almost all of them have terrible teeth - mostly from smoking their whole lives!
Well - Egypt has been a great education and tons of fun. We leave tomorrow morning bright and early to travel into Jordan, where we will go and see Petra.
So fun! I wish you could have smuggled me in your suitcase, I would have been happy to have you leave me at the market place, died and gone to heaven!
ReplyDeleteLee and I were talking, and since you are seeing MILLIONS of amazing things this trip we were saying by the end your 'wow' factor is going to be dulled :) Like you'll see some amazing artifact in Jerusalem and be like oh cool. The bed where Lazirus slept... neat. :) HAVE FUN!! and keep posting!
Looks like a dream trip and seeing all things that you learn about in history and/or the scriptures. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteFYI: Dad had surgery yesterday where they put a by-pass in to bypass a totally blocked artery which provides the blood to his left leg. He should be home from the hospital tomorrow or Sunday. The Dr. said everything went well and now he has good blood flow to his left leg. He was doing okay last night when I left. Am about to go back to the hospital to check on him this morning.
Have fun: Love Ya- Mom
So glad you both have great cameras because your photos are awesome. I love closeups! I love the pictures of the expressions on the people. I love textures! The captions are so helpful and it sounds like you are having a great time. Just the start of so many more memories. Are there things you wish you might have had more time to see in Egypt? Looking forward to more blogging. You're doing great!
