Well it's been a long two days but we made it!! We decided it takes a lot of work to go to cool places!!!
Boston with the kids was GREAT! and FREEZING!!! We weren't even there 24 hours, loved hangin' with Tara, Drew, Haley and a brief visit with Dennis!
On to the airport at 2:00 on Thurs. we settled in for our 6 1/2 hour flight to Frankfurt. Again - FREEZING (about like Boston) and brief - but I had fun taking Steve to the main train station (we were thinking of you Tara!!) and then we took a train ride out of town for about 1/2 hour to just see a bit of Germany. Stopped off at a little town took pictures, and then headed back to the airport for our next 4 hours flight to Cairo!
Talking to our tour guide host, we discovered - Steve and I are the only ones on our tour for the first 4 days :) Cairo has about 23 million people living in the city with approx. 80 million living in Egypt. Crazy -
Driving in Cairo - so our tour guide said - is the craziest in the world! Green means go - yellow means go - and red means go faster!!! The lines on the road mean nothing! and just watch out someone could decide to cross the road right in front of a whole line of traffic. What an adventure!!! Egypt is 9 hours ahead of Mesa and the weather is pretty similar!
Our hotel is beautiful!!! It's the Fairmont Towers. We had a yummy buffet at about 9 tonight - after finally getting everything situated. We have been warned - not to eat ANY raw vegetables or fruit! ONLY use bottled water! We can take a shower but only brush our teeth with bottled water. We did bring plenty of imodium and pepto and granola bars - just in case!
We have an early 4:00am wake up call to get us on a little puddle jumper flight at 6:30 in the morning to Luxor where we will board our 3 day Nile cruise.
Not sure that we will have internet access on the Nile.
So far so good! Ready to be done with flying - but can't wait to see the belly dancing show on the cruise!
Happy Birthday, Steve!! What a birthday present. What will you do next year?
ReplyDeleteBe careful in Egypt - no auto accidents or food poisoning. No Egyptian hospitals for you!
Glad you are having a great time. Enjoy the Nile and your private tour.
Love, Marlane

Happy b'day Bro. Thanks Liz for the commentary and travels so far. Looking forward to the updates. As it turns out will be in Seattle Tues-Fri. Took pics of Katie Pomming at the JV boys game Fri nite the 5th. Got to talk to her for a minute after. Already miss you guys and wish we were there with you. This is the next best thing. we were in Costa Rica 3 years ago this week when I grabbed a crocadile my the tail from our tour canoe and he soaked everyone on the boat with his thrashing before I let go. Do the same on the Nile and send a pic! Here he is hidden just before the grab; http://www.porter-az.com/albums/costarica/img_DSCN3672.htm
